What is important in the school motto at Pencey from Catcher In The Rye?

If you read the book, you'll know that Holdens character is very different . In holdens eyes he thinks that the whole "motto" is a phony . He thinks that none of what is says is true.

Now why is it important ? well because he doesn't want to "fit" in and be like the others, he wants to be independent . * its a really good book*
