what is the equation of the line that passes through the point (-9 6) and is perpendicularto the line y=3x-5 ?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Can you tell what the slope of the given line is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When given a point, and a slope we can use point-slope form. Y-Y1 = M(X-X1) Where M represents the slope, and the point is (X1, Y1) When asked to find some that is perpendicular, we must change the given slope. If we are given a slope M, the slope that is perpendicular will be the /negative reciprocal/ or -1/M Using this try to find your equation. (Remember they might not give you a slope explicitly, but they will give you another equation. Like in this case. You must find the original slope from the given equation first!)
