Point p is located at (-2,7) and point R is located at (1,0). Find the point Q that is located 2/3 the distance from point P to point R. Answers: (-1.3,4.9) (-1,4.7) (-0.3,2.5) (0,2.3) Help please I would greatly appreciate it! :)

Okay this requires two steps. The first step is to find the midpoint

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The midpoint is -1/3, 7/2 DO you need help solving that part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i got the midpoint

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok good Actually the midpoint should be -1/2, 7/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now you have to find the midpoint of -1/2, 7/2 and 1,0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm just a moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should get 1/4 and 7/4. Let me know if you get the same answer. This will get you your answer 3/4ths of the way. The question says you need 2/3rds This can be calculated by taking the midpoint of both midpoints XD A third midpoint.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is what i got too! YAY! lol and then the answer would be the midpoint of 1/4 and 7/4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not quite. That is the same point. You will get 2/3rds from the midpoint of 1/4,7/4 and -1/2,7/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay im confused now...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You found one midpoint. That is halfway (1/2) You found a second midpoint. That is a third of the way (3/4) Now you have to find a third midpoint. That will be 4/6 (2/3) of the way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This can be calculated by finding the midpoint at 1/2 and 3/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! Thanks for explaining. Just a minute let me figure it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got (-1/8, 21/8) I hope this make sense and you get the same answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@KirbyLegs are you still here?? I got that answer but its not one of the answers above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're correct. I messed up somewhere. Another way to solve this is visually. That is why I am sure the answer is A I know this isn't the best help, but . . . yeah okay XD
