what did churchill mean by the "iron curtain"?

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

The Iron Curtain was the symbolic, ideological, and physical boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II in 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. Less than a year after the end of the World War II, the British Prime minister, Winston Churchill, delivered this speech coining the term "iron curtain" to describe the line in Europe between self-governing nations of the West and those in Eastern Europe under Soviet Communist control. ~yahoo answers
