4(x+2)+4=4x-8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distribute to clear the parenthesis, move the x's to one side and numbers to the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve one step at a time w/ me Distribute 4(x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

issue with this equation...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it entered correctly here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Start by distributing the 4 on the left side. Here's an example of using the distributive property: 2(x + 4) = 2 * x + 2 * 4 = 2x + 8 Use this example of using the distributive property to apply it to your problem's left side. What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I already helped u solve one before that was similar, so apply the same steps, please no one do this for her... if u don't understand then u won't be able to apply knowledge to an equation like this so, after distributing 4x+8+4= 4x-8 combine like terms on the left side (8+4) then, what do i do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Brittnay ?? will u solve with me or if u don't know just try cause i know u can add!!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We will find answer together, so 4x+12 = 4x -8 guess at next step (think balance equation)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20 not so = to 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the answer -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x + 12 = 4x-8 +8 +8 4x+ 20 = 4x -4x -4x 20 = 0 So there is no solution, the equation is not equal 20 does not equal 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bingo

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Since by following correct steps, as @Nanalew did, you arrive at a false equation, that means there is no solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did u get -3? show me so i can help u understand ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I messed yp and put 8 on both sides instead of 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

glad i helped and u caught ur error !!!!! nice job :)
