Find the perimeter of the shaded region.

OpenStudy (kainui):

What does it look like? A bunch of circles that were cut in half or had parts taken apart from them. For instance, that right part is just the area of one large circle with the area of half of some other smaller circle subtracted off. So try it out, and make your best attempt. It gets easier with a few tries.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

I'm assuming the top half is a semicircle even though it's hard to tell... that's the only way to find its area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.. you're right.. let me try

OpenStudy (kainui):

Also, we both just were talking about area, and obviously you're trying to find the perimeter. I don't know why we did that, but don't listen to us about that, and make sure you find the perimeter haha.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find the perimeter, i need to find its circumference..right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ugh. its hard

OpenStudy (kainui):

Yeah you got it, keep at it. Write it down and label it out. You can do it.

OpenStudy (kainui):

Break it down into parts. Since there are three pieces, find the perimeter of each chunk and then add those 3 up. Heck, it even looks like two of the 3 chunks are the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! 10+10.. 20 x pi? to find the perimeter.. did i get it rght?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

lol I did not even pay attention to the perimeter in the title :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok:)

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Oh i know... because the stupid thing calls it a shaded region. Why shade the region if you aren't concerned about what's inside it?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Well let's look at each of the three parts:|dw:1388921585034:dw||dw:1388921626079:dw| So if you see just part A of the shape, what's the perimeter of that? It's not 20pi, because that's the perimeter of a whole circle, and this is half that. So what's the perimeter of just this part A?
