How did the annexation of texas only ad to debate regarding slavery?

The Union and the confederates wanted more power for themselves the only way to keep them happy was to make new states slave or free states. When Texas entered the union there were debates on whether or not it would be free or slave,when owned by Mexico it slavery was outlawed. There were many compromises that took place to keep a balance of power, they did not want a civil war but it was inevitable because of the way the south had acted .So each new state meant debates between the parties
