The beneficiaries of the 1873 "Big Bonanza" were John William Mackay together with his accomplices James Graham Fair, James Clair Flood as well as William S. O'Brien. They together were commonly referred to as the Bonanza Kings after they discovered a giant ore more than 1,200 feet deep.
