\[9^{3} - (-4^{2} -2 )\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got two different answers... I did 9*9*9*-4*-4-2 and I got 11662 But then I did another way and somehow got 747... Which one is correct? If not explain..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

729 -(-16-2) 729 +16 + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[9 \times 9 \times 9 - [-(4)(4) - 2]\] is what you should be doing, because you don't have \[(-4)^2\] you have \[-4^2\] which is the same as saying \[- (4)^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[729-14\] is the simplified form of that and then you just subtract.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait sorry that's not right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

747 is correct. 9^3 - (-4^2 -2) 729 - (-16 - 2) 729 - (- 18) Subtracting a negative from a positive is easy. Change the negative (-18) to positive (18) and add that to the positive (729) 747 :)

747 you were right the second time @ineedhelppleaselikeom
