Quilt squares are cut on the diagonal to form triangular quilt pieces. The hypotenuse of the resulting triangles is 14 inches long. What is the side length of each piece?

Think back a few years. What makes a square a square and not a rectangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a square makes up two triangle because if you draw a square and draw a diagonal line from the right to the left or the left to the right in the middle you will see how two triangles make a square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Two triangles can make a rectangle as well. A square has all equal length sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

So, given that the square has the same length sides, what do you know about the legs of each triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Either of the two shorter sides of a right triangle. These two sides together form the right angle in the right triangle.
