write the ratio as a fraction in simplest form 12 oz: 3 lb

OpenStudy (raden):

wht mean the oz and lb there ?

OpenStudy (raden):

sorry, i dont know yet. whats the relation betwen oz and lbs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are 16 ounces in one pound. \[3lb+12oz(\frac{1lb}{16oz})\] Ounces cancel, leaving you with: \[3\frac{3}{4}lb\]

Since both items are on the same side of the equation you multiply straight across. Cross multiple is technically multiplying the same thing on both sides so one of the sides cancels out.
