help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do u need help with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what the difference between

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-5^{3} * 5^{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(-5)^{2} * 5^{2} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i calculate the parenthesis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In -5^3*5^2, -5^3 means -(5^3) which equals -125; 5^2=25; so the product is -25*25=-3125. (-5)^2*5^2 is different; (-5)^2=5^2=25, so the product is 625.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, so when i take out the parenthesis the negative number becomes positive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

never mind, i get it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1389100054993:dw| When x is an even number, either a is positive number or negative number, the result is positive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for your help ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are welcome.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
