Yeah, thats what im confused on. The equation is confusing me... Can someone actually explain deeper?

It asks for the base to be used like three times in one equation

You can see the base is a hexagon thus there are 6 triangles. The surface area of that pyramid is the sum of the areas of the triangles plus the base area.
