What is the area of the circle if XY=5.4 mm?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you explain some more? What's XY?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You've given the equation for a hyperbola. An equation for a circle looks like: \[x^2 + y^2 = r^2\] where r is the radius of the circle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That can't be right. The given equation has XY, not X+Y. So, multiplication would be done.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

xy=5.4 is not a circle, though http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=xy%3D5.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But, are X and Y referring to coordinates or variables?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dunno, I can't imagine what the question might be. Have to wait for OP to respond
