A waiter earned $16 in tips in an hour. He was paid in $1 bills and $5 bills. Use a model to determine how many $5 bills he received if he received a total of 12 bills. (A) 1 (B) 2 (C) 3 (D) 4

its c

Hi, Abby! Recognize that this is a problem involving simultaneous equations? Why don't we let the number of $1 bills be x and the number of $5 bills be y? How many bills are there altogether? Then x+y=? How much are the bills worth all together? $1x + $5y= ? Create those two equations and solve them simultenously. Use substitution, addition/subtraction, graphing or whatever method you favor. suppose the answer were c. Then you'd have 3-$5 bills and 9-$1 bills. Does that add up to $16?

yes it would @mathmale

OpenStudy (mathmale):

So, Abby, you're saying that 9x$1 + 3x$5 = $16?

Please try the same thing with Option 1. Which would be the better choice for your final answer?
