2(x+3)= ?
Use the distributive property.
(2X) + (2X3) ?
$$2(x + 3) \implies 2x + 6$$
so 8x is the answer?
Now set the equation to zero, and solve for x. $$2x + 6 \implies 2x + 6 = 0$$ $$2x = -6 \implies x = -3$$
but how does 2x +6= 0?
Well I assumed you wanted to solve for the root. (So you set the equation to zero, and solve for x).
no i just need to evaluate the problem. Like solve it.
so in this case whats the answer?
Well you have two options, the root, or the simplified version of the equation. $$2(x+3)= ?$$ Where your question mark is, there should be a number there, since there isnt we can only simplify the expression. $$2(x + 3) \implies 2x + 6$$
Ok so the simplified answer is?
$$2x + 6$$ You cannot simplify it any further than that.
yeah but whats 6+ 2x? 8x?
2x+6 means you have 2 x's and 1 6 2x+6x is 8x 2x+6 is as simple as it gets.
@BoraBora999, @GotFinals? is correct x =-3
@GotFinals? why are you setting it equal zero?
@SolomonZelman To solve for the root.
oh sorry wait didn't read the rest f the replys
i just needed to do 2x + 6 so to this problem the answer is 8x? right? not the simplified version or anything just the answer
2x+6 is NOT 8x 2x + 6x is 8x
GotFinals, did he ask that? the question just says what it's equal to? so expand that's all, and don't make staff up. And phi, go on pliz....
so then whats 2x +6?
I didn't make up anything? After I gave him the expanded form he asked: "so 8x is the answer?" I presumed he wanted the root, so I should him how to solve for it...
yes 2(x+3) means you have two "packages" that contain x+3 in other words you have 2 x's and 2 3's 2x+ 2*3 of course we can simplify 2*3 to 6 2x+6
becasue the original question was 2(x+3) and if u use distributive property you get (2x) + (2x3) the answer to that is 2x+6= whats the answer to this equation?
oh srry phi just saw your answer.
