how come it's piden? i'm kinda confused on this whole pedir vs preguntar concept :/

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

preguntar means to ask a question pedir means to ask for something as in a request Here you need pedir. yo pido tu pides el pide nosotros pedimos vosotros pedis ellos piden <--- you need this, third person, plural

ohhh okay that makes sense... so if you're asking where the bathroom is, that would be using preguntar right? but say you're asking can you please pass the salt, that uses pedir?

OpenStudy (lauluisa):

Yes... lol exactly..

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Think of it this way: pregunta ---> question preguntar ---> to question, meaning to ask a question pedido ---> request pedir ---> to request something
