what are the causes and effects of U.S imperialism

OpenStudy (awesome781):

Land and money

U.S imperialism is slightly different than countries like Britain. Imperialism in the U.S was always justified and military occupation was usually the reason the U.S would ever implement itself on foreign lands, whereas most countries used it as a form of expansion, the u.s only occupies foreign land on moral grounds to "solve a problem" as you will. For example the united states would go to other countries during the Cold War to stop the spread of communism, but not to gain land for itself. Occupation was never a huge issue in the U.S, all the ground it ever occupied has now been annexed to be apart of the country. As far as causes go, what is now considered the U.S was influenced by westward expansion during the second enlightenment.
