Mathew is going to a macy's sale. the shoe he wants is 34.40% off its original price. the shoes sale price is $98.60. How much is its original price? I got $132.52 for an answer. is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you get \(34.4\%\) off you pay \(100\%-34.4\%=65.6\%=.656\) of the price you know \(.656P=98.60\) so \(P=98.60\div .656\) whatever that is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get \(\$150.30\) rounded http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=98.6%2F.656

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am going to bet you took \(34.4\%\) of \(\$98.60\) and added it back, it does not work that way because \(34.4\%\) of the sale price is lower than \(34.4\%\) of the original price, which you do not know at the start

aww.. thanksss!!!
