Systems of Equations! Please help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (lucaz):

you have y=x+4 3y=-2x+2 you can multiply the 1sr equation by 2 and add them up 2y=2x+8 3y=-2x+2 --------- 5y=0+10 -> y=10/5=2 then you pick an equation and substitute y by 2 the 1st equation becomes (2)=x+4 -> x=-2

OpenStudy (lucaz):

what is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm going to put everything in pieces. Here's the question, and I'll put up the choices right after.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (lucaz):

I always get confused with this type of word problems, better you get help from someone else

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Thanks for trying anyways dude. ^-^

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

x + y = 7 ---> x = -y + 7 y intercept is 7 x intercept is 7 slope is -1 3y = 2x + 6 y = 2/3x + 2 y intercept is 2 x intercept is : -3 slope is 2/3 It is the third graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

O: You're smart, if I do say myself! Thank you! ^.^

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

no problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a few more questions, although I'm sure you guys might not want to help me. :/

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

-2x + y = 3 -4x + 2y = 6 -- reduce -2x + y = 3 same equation, same line....overlapping lines

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You really are smart... you did that fast!

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

y = x + 3 sub in x + 3 for y in the other equation 2x + y = 9 2x + x + 3 = 9 3x + 3 = 9 3x = 9 - 3 3x = 6 x = 2 now sub 2 in for x in either of the original equations to find y y = x + 3 y = 2 + 3 y = 5 solution is (2,5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whoa... I can't thank you enough!

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

2x = 5y + 4 --> 2x - 5y = 4 3x - 2y = -16 2x - 5y = 4 -->(-3) 3x - 2y = -16 -->(2) ---------------- -6x + 15y = -12 (result of multiplying by -3) 6x - 4y = - 32 (result of multiplying by 2) ---------------add 11y = - 44 y = -4 now sub -4 in for y 2x - 5y = 4 2x - 5(-4) = 4 2x + 20 = 4 2x = 4 - 20 2x = -16 x = -8 solution is (-8,-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're amazing at this.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

x + y = 5 y = -x + 5 y intercept is 5 x intercept is 5 It is line joining points whose x and y coordinates add up to 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

15x - 2 = 3^x I do not really know the proper way to do this, so I am just gonna sub in your answer choices to see which one is correct. 15(1) - 12 = 3^1 15 - 12 = 3 3 = 3 (correct) answer is : x = 1

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

thanks for the testimonial :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, no problem. You're very helpful!

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

@thisisausername ...got more questions ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes ma'am. ^-^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I am sorry..I do not know this one :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's fine. ^-^ Let me get the next question ready for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

10x + 8y <= 40 8y <= -10x + 40 y <= -10/8x + 40/8 y <= - 5/4x + 5 y intercept is 5 x intercept is 4 less then means shading below the line graph is 3rd graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are absurdly good at this.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I am sorry but I have to get off now....I have to go somewhere. I will be back on later. I will finish this last one....give me a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

-3x - 5y < 1 -5y < 3x + 1 y > 3/5x - 1/5 y int is -1/5 x int is -1/3 slope is 3/5 (>) greater then means shading above the line answer is : -3x - 5y < 1 sorry it took so long....I am gonna go now, I will be back on later. Hope I helped :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Adios. And it helped a lot. Thank you. :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

YW :)
