1. All the ones that are not the first 13 colonies.
2. Because they believed that it was a "god given right" of the United States to dominate the western hemisphere.
3. Because they didn't believe in that "god given right", and thought that other countries deserved their own autonomy and the United States should mind its own business. They were also against the wars that imperialism creates. An example of this is David Thoreau's book, Civil Disobedience. Thoreau wrote this book in the 1840's against Polk's war for the inclusion of Mexican states to the United States.
