I fan and give medals! Please help!! :) Find the constant of variation for the quadratic variation. 6y = 9x^2 A.4/9 B.2/3 C.3/2 D.-2

Parth (parthkohli):

Bring this equation to the form y = cx^2. The c you get is the constant of variation. In other words, get the y alone on the left side. Then look at the coefficient of x^2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait help how do I do that? @ParthKohli

Parth (parthkohli):

Divide both sides by 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but then I get y=9x2/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant y=9x^2

Parth (parthkohli):

The first one is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divided by 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But in the equation its supposed to be x^2

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes. So what is the coefficient of x^2 in 9x^2/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Aww I'm so confused!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do I just plug in the answers?

Parth (parthkohli):

It's supposed to be x^2 multiplied by some number which we will call c for now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok but whta is that number?

Parth (parthkohli):

That is what we shall figure out!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now how do I do that?

Parth (parthkohli):

So we get 9x^2/6, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

Parth (parthkohli):

That is the same thing as 9/6 * x^2

Parth (parthkohli):

So what number is being multiplied to x^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 1.5 times x^2?

Parth (parthkohli):

Right, and so 1.5 is your constant of variation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats my answer?

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it should be 3/2? C.?

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes, correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMg thank you so much!!!! :)

Parth (parthkohli):

No problem heh
