A student states that Earth would be no different if water did not expand when it freezes. Do you agree with this statement?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. If water did not expand when frozen, it would make the erosion and breakdown of rocks more difficult. Also, ice and water would intermingle, making it more likely that bodies of water could freeze all the way through, impacting life in the water.
