Use addition or substitution to find the value of x for this set of equations x - y = 120 x + y = 150

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... if you solve for "y" on the 1st equation... what would it be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x - y = 120 \rightarrow (1)\]\[x + y = 150 \rightarrow (2)\] What do you get when you add (1) and (2)? Can you modify (1) to find x in terms of y? Can you then use this in the second equation?
