Three ways seeds are dispersed.? Please explain
1) Birds, animals and insects eating the fruit flesh along with the seeds. The digestion takes time within which the vector (carrying animal, bird, insect) moves to a different place. Seeds being indigestable are excreted at the new location. eg. deer eating berries and excreting seeds in a different part of the jungle. Alternatively, the vector might eat the fruit after seperating the seed and drop it in the same location. eg. Monkeys eating mangoes. 2) By adherence- seeds attach to vector's body. eg. pollen attaching to bees' hairy feet or cotton seeds with the feathery hair attaching to animal fur etc. 3)By attraction- Plants produce attactive and bright colored fruits or sweet smelling fruits/ seeds. The dispersing agent disperses the seeds while attempting to check out the stimulus( bright color, sweet smell). Here the fruit or seed is either inedible (sometimes poisonous eg. mushrooms) or not reachable for being eaten by the agent, eg. berries growing on thorny trees or in hard pectinous shells.
