OpenStudy (snowfire):

You just subtract their momentums, since they are going in opposite directions

OpenStudy (snowfire):

What do you get as their individual momenta?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

momentum = mass * velocity total momentum = sum of momenta pick a positive direction. by convention, let's choose the right side. so anything going left is negative. 1.5*1.4 +1.0*(-1.4) = 0.5*1.4 = 0.7 kg*m/s

OpenStudy (snowfire):

Well I was hoping to walk him/her through it, but that works

OpenStudy (snowfire):

The spring will distribute equal momentum to each cart. If you can find the momentum of one cart, you know the other.

OpenStudy (snowfire):

And of course, knowing the momentum will give you the speed as well.
