Does OpenStudy mind if I link my profile to a PayPal account for donations?
Donations completely, selfishly to myself I mean. Well I mean, not that I'm probably going to make money anyways. But I could even compromise like giving a a percentage of my "earnings". Is there like rules for this?
The \( \large\underline{\href{ /code-of-conduct }{Code~of~Conduct}}\) says nothing about donations! In fact, we encourage it! Currently we only have a system for Subscribers -- but I heard that we'll be implementing a donation system soon! Keep yourself updated with all the latest OpenStudy improvements and changes at: http://blog.openstudy.com/ We also have a Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/OpenStudy \(\bf\Large\color{#00B4ff}{Open}\color{#7cc517}{Study}\color{}{~Ambassador}\color{#872af0}{~~Ⓐ}\color{#478903}{~Compassionate}\)
I have a good idea. OS should get on gittip and get its funding there. Even though it is not open-sourced, it can get a good amount of money from people who are willing to do some weekly funding!
Kainul, you wanna donate to OpenStudy? Love your generous heart!
You mean donations for OpenStudy or for yourself?
Heyyyyyy wait, he is talking about himself.
That's what I was thinking... And I believe that would be against the Code of Conduct. Anyhow, you should be doing it for just the joy of giving the gift of knowledge to another person... not for money.
Yes, he's referring to himself and giving partial donations to OpenStudy. He's basically asking if there is anything in the ToS that prevents collecting monetary value from other users with some of it going to the site.
It isn't wrong to link to your PayPal account though. If people think you are good, then they would donate! So, uh, go ahead.
That may, however, be unethical.
"Soliciting personal, private, or offline contact information." CoC This is the closest I can find. But really, it goes against what OpenStudy is there for
Well, I spend a lot of time on here and give a lot of help in calculus, organic chemistry, and several other subjects completely for free. I don't have a problem with this, but I feel like it wouldn't hurt to have an extra option to sign up for some form of partnership with OpenStudy. So if someone fans another user, next to where it asks to write a testimonial it also gives the option to donate to that particular user, and splits the money between the user and OS. I appreciate and enjoy using OS, so I have nothing against supporting the site, however I am considering leaving to other tutoring options that pay since I need some extra income to go travelling. So here I am, I thought I'd give it a shot and ask here what we can do about it.
Kainul, you wanna donate to OpenStudy? Love your generous heart!
@Preetha Kind of.
I think that Kainui wants to set up a system whereby users can donate to tutors and OpenStudy takes a cut of it.
@blues Yeah that.
@Preetha I think she means making money for herself (users who she tutors paying her) and she would donate a portion of it to OpenStudy if it was required.
