\[12x ^{2^{}} + 5x - 1 - (10x ^{2^{}} - 2x - 4)\] Since there is a negative sign, you should multiply it with the variables in the parenthesis. So we get \[12x ^{2^{}} + 5x - 1 - 10x ^{2^{}} + 2x + 4\] From there, you can get the answer, just subtract like terms like you would whole numbers
