write an equation in slope-intercept form of the line that passes through the given point and parallel to the graph of the given equation (-3,5); y=3x+5

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

Hello and Welcome to Openstudy! :) slope intercept form is y = mx + b where m = slope and b = y-intercept parallel lines have equal slope so if a line if parallel to y = 3x + 5 then the slope = 3 follow so far? :)

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

you would then get y = 3x + b for your new equation so far. then you can temporarily plug in the given point (-3, 5) so solve for b when given (5) = 3(-3) + b

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

then once you get b you can plug it back into y = 3x + (b) and get the answer :)
