Determine if each pair of equations is parallel, perpendicular, or neither. Explain your reasoning. y = x + 1 and y – x = 10

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Same as the last. Add x on the second equation and get \[\LARGE y=x+10\]

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

The slope for both are 1

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

The pair is parallel. They have the same slope which is 1 as luigi said.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what work can I show???

OpenStudy (amriju):

simply take the formula to the form y=mx + c..where m and c are constants...m is the slope..for the lines to be parellel..both should have equal slopes..for perpendicular lines..the product of their slopes is -1..for any other the slope varies...
