What is a benefit of owning a desktop computer instead of a laptop?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Desktops generally have a better ratio between price and performance, as well as larger drives, larger display options, more upgrade options, and so on. Laptops have portability, but are more fragile and generally have a shorter life span. Still, many people have gone to laptops, even for a home computer. Being able to work where they want, the ability to grab it and go, and so on. If they do not need gaming performance and don't plan on putting a terabyte of data on the one machine, well, it can really reduce the need for a desktop.
