!!! One Medal Question !!!
- Distinguish among silent, missense, and nonsense point mutations. - Define biotic and biotic factors of the environment. Give an example of each. - How do ecologists define the term ecosystem?
A silent mutation is a mutation in which a single nucleotide base is changed, but that change does not effect the amino acid sequence. A missense mutation is a point mutation in which a single nucleotide is changed, resulting in a codon that codes for a different amino acid. Mutations that change an amino acid to a stop codon are considered nonsense mutations, rather than missense mutations. This can render the resulting protein nonfunctional.
2. a abiotic factor is a not living or has never lived . like water H2O is not living sand rocks mountains and deserts. a biotic factor is something that has lived or is living .like plants and animals.
3.Ecosystem- The living community (Flora and Fauna of the Habitat), and the physical environment functioning together as an independent, and relatively stable systematic environment.
both from wiki answers
An ecosystem is a natural unit consisting of all plants, animals and micro-organisms(biotic factors) in an area functioning together with all of the non-living physical (abiotic) factors of the environment. The term ecosystem was coined in 1930 by Roy Clapham, to denote the physical and biological components of an environment considered in relation to each other as a unit.
