calc help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What are you supposed to do with that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry 4, find the -values (if any) at which is not continuous. Which of the discontinuities are removable?

OpenStudy (science0229):

That function is continuous for all real numbers.

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

What value do you think might cause a problem, just by looking at the inequalities?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1?

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

Yup. Find \[\lim_{x \rightarrow 1-}-2x+3\ and \ \lim_{x \rightarrow 1+}x^2\] If they are the same, then f(x) is continuous. If not f(x) is not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok ill try that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the one with 2x di plug in -1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or just 1

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

Just 1. The 1- means "as x approaches 1 from the left"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i was just making sure
