On that list Alternative (I mostly listen to shoegaze, funk punk, post rock, and space rock and they are always fitted in that category).

Btw I think you are refering to hip hop when you said rap. Rap is a vocal style.

Music reduces my concentration, I only listen to music on rare occasions and when I do it's mostly foreign songs.

For me, @LanguageEnthusiast, music helps me concentrate, so long as it's in Japanese. If it's in English, it distracts me too much because I keep trying to focus on the words. However, if it's Japanese, I focus on the beat because I don't know alot of Japanese.

I have trouble focusing on just one thing at a time, and it makes it messy to do stuff. However, if I have music going, it draws the rest of my focus to it so I can concentrate on school.

Even when I'm NOT doing school, I'm doing multiple things at once. Texting multiple friends, playing games, drawing(I do digital art) and listening to music all at once.. I've had people ask me "How do you do that?! You have four devices going at once, and you're using ALL of them. Are you trying to contact Mars?!" LOL

My brain gets lost when listening to music, since childhood, I would always tend to hum the beat or find an alternative melody that accompanied the song which lead to the lack of focus. Then I learned how to run two different tracks of audio to one ear and the other track to the other ear, from there on I create my own music, I tend to find that low notes in my right ear, increase my brain productivity, while music to my right ear tends to make me feel a certain way.

(If anyone is interested the way to do this is by using midi).

I can't really listen to music if I am trying to study or even trying to read a book, I need silence for those activities.
