For the graph shown, select the statement that best represents the given system of equations. http://bit.ly/1agcXZt 2y – x = 2 x – 2y = 8

A. coincident B. consistent and independent C. inconsistent D. not enough information

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve the system of equations and see if there is a solution

Thanks @kelliegirl33

It's interesting that you (DF) have provided both the equations and a diagram. When I first saw the diagram, I concluded immediately that this system of linear equations has no solution (the lines don't cross). Neither does one line sit on top of the other (coincident). So you can immediately throw out option A.

So its C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is C

I am reluctant to accept that without knowing the reasoning behind it. Have you looked up the word "inconsistent" so that you know what it means in this context? In your shoes, i would do an Internet search for "inconsistent linear equations."
