Please help me divide 5x^2-17x-12 by x-4 using long division. Please show steps!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got -(5x-3)(x-4) ... is that correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm at the library and time is running out on this computer.. sorry..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually when i divided by -1 to get rid of the negative i got (5x+3) but would my answer simply be (5x+3) or (5x+3)(x-4)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and surely it is, without a remainder...

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

depends, if you're as for the quotient, then it's just (5x+3)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

unless you're asked to just factor it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!
