A block of metal has a width of 3.2cm, a length of 17.1cm, and a height of 4.2cm. Its mass is 1.3kg. Calculate the density.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you find the volume which is length x width x height so therefore, 3.2cm x 17.1cm x 4.2cm gives? you do the math.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I got that far. For the volume I got 229.8 cm3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok good the formula for density is \[P =\frac{ m }{ v }\] where p is the density, m is the mass and v is the volume so you should apply your values and thats it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But do I have to put Kg into g?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes It is wise to convert the kg to g so when you get your answer the SI unit will be g/cm^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also some people convert the cm to m to obtain \[kgm ^{-3}\]. Either way is fine!

Thanks so much~!
