OpenStudy (anonymous):

For electrolysis, is there an advantage if the anode is the same metal as the metal in the plating solution?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

If I remember correctly, the anode will lose electron, making it dissolve into the solution. So I would say, no? An advantage comes if it's the cathode where the ions in the solution can take part as well. Get what I mean? Check if what I said is right.
