OpenStudy (umlika):

what is H2S called ?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Hello and welcome to OpenStudy. What do you think? Try naming each of the element and see if you've heard something like that before. This should help: http://www.ptable.com/

OpenStudy (umlika):

hey and thank you ! is it hydrosulfuric acid or sulforous acid ?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

The second guess is close :) With time you'll get more familiar with acid names. Try again. Also, the H usually just hints that it's an acid, so putting it in the name is unnecessary when we will call it an acid.

OpenStudy (umlika):

ok , thank you for the help btw

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Did you get it? What is it? And you're welcome.

OpenStudy (umlika):

i think it is sulforous acid

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Oh wow I made a mistake. I'm so sorry. I confused it with H2SO4. I was completely off accept when I told you to try and put the names together. We have hydrogen and sulfur. How can you call that?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

except* This should help: http://chemistry.about.com/od/nomenclature/a/nomenclature-ionic-compounds.htm

OpenStudy (umlika):

i don't know i just think it is

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

It would be hydrogen sulfide; it's like translating the symbols literally into the name of the elements but with the correct suffix.

OpenStudy (umlika):

ok thank u , i appreciate your help
