Which of these statements regarding the hidrophobic effect is true? a) It drives a protein to assume a more contorted and strained confimation that is less stable than the unfolded structure. b) It simultaneously maximises the stability and entropy of the folded polypeptide chain over the corresponding unfolded confirmation c) It promotes the surface locolization of hydrophobic residuces under reducing cellular conditions d) It drives a globural protein to internalise hydrophobic residues, causing an associated surface localiazation of most hydrophilic residues.
@wolfe8 maybe you can help me this also?
Oh boy. You are actually in a more advanced class than me. I think the answer is in here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrophobic_effect It's not too much to read.
thanks anyway:))
This is right: d) It drives a globular protein to internalise hydrophobic residues, causing an associated surface localization of most hydrophilic residues. But this is kind of right as well if you change it up a bit. b) It simultaneously maximises the stability of the folded polypeptide chain over the corresponding unfolded conformation and [maximizes] the entropy of the system by minimizing hydrophobic residue-water contact surface area.
