Can some one help me with these two problems? Step By Step.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WHAT STEP?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i can't see it

Find x if Line AD is a median of Triangle ABC Find y if line AD is an altitude of Triangle ABC|dw:1389577199953:dw|

OpenStudy (oaktree):

@HelpJosh14 are you still there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (nikato):

what do u know about BD and DC if AD is the median

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are equal. Correct?

OpenStudy (oaktree):

So if AD is the median, we have that BD and DC are equal, right? So their lengths must be the same. So we have \[4x+9 = 7x-6\]Which gives us \[x=5\]Good so far?

OpenStudy (nikato):

correct. so u can set up the following equation 4x+9=7x-6 and u can solve for x algebraically

OpenStudy (oaktree):

Nikato, I was talking to HelpJosh, but thanks for your response. XD So are you following, Josh?

OpenStudy (nikato):

wait, what? i didnt respond to u though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How to find y

OpenStudy (oaktree):

The height of the altitude is the geometric mean of the sides it splits. So \[2y-6 = \sqrt{(4x+9)(7x-6)}\]Since you know x...can you solve now?

OpenStudy (nikato):

@OakTree thats incorrect.. ur fidning the degrees so since its an altitude its perpendicular so its a right angles so 2y-6=90

OpenStudy (oaktree):

Oh, is that labelling the angle? I thought it was labelling the length of the altitude.

OpenStudy (nikato):

yea, its the anlge if u look at the original pic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks from the help from both of you guys.
