to get the direction of magnetic field- hold the conductor in your right hand ,such that your fingers curl around the wire,and your outstretched thumb points in the direction of the current, then the direction in which your fingers are curling give the direction of magnetic field around the wire

with mu the permeability, I the current, R the distance from the long wire.
