how to respond to ¿Cómo es tu familia?

OpenStudy (kailee1423):

The question is "how is your family?" So you would tell how your family is.

Let me continue what Kailee was trying to say: Just like Kailee said, the question means "How is your family". But this is asking how your family usually acts, NOT HOW THEY ARE FEELING. So if your family is usually sympathetic, you would say, "Mi familia es simpático", but if your family is serious then you would say, "Mi famila es serio.", etc...

OpenStudy (kailee1423):

Your better at explaining things lol

Also, and to expand on the help given by the other users, I would say that the question implies an answer of the type: "What's your family like?", meaning that you could possibly talk about their members (i.e. how many brothers and sisters, grandparents, who lives in the household, etc.). Obviously, you can expand this answer as much as you want/need. In a nutshell, I'd rephrase the translation of the question into: "Tell me about your family". I hope this helps!
