Can someone help me with english 12? I will give a medal, I just really need some help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's about Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal, I have read it numerous times but i can't seem to figure this out. This is the passage I have to read: I am assured by our merchants, that a boy or a girl before twelve years old is no salable commodity; and even when they come to this age they will not yield above three pounds, or three pounds and half-a-crown at most on the exchange; which cannot turn to account either to the parents or kingdom, the charge of nutriment and rags having been at least four times that value.

ok i read it where is the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question is which of these is most strongly evidenced by the serious tone of this passage. my choices are: swift's use of rational argument swift's meticulous research into the topic swift's disregarded for the welfare of poor children swift's use of verbal irony

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would say it was swifts disregard for the welfare of poor children, because in the passage he says even though the child are 12 years old that when bought or sold that they are not worth much and saying that their closes are worth more than the children themselves.

okay that makes sense, thank you(:
