World History Help Please (:
These are the 3 I need help with! How was the social hierarchy of the Middle Ages an outgrowth of feudalism? What effect did the process of urbanization in Europe have on the economies of Europe? How did medieval merchants help Europe move toward a more global economy?
1. Feudalism required a new set of social rules. No longer would the old tribal systems work, so everything had to change. With the rise of the noblemen and knights, a professional government and warrior level of society, there needed to be something to guide such groups to not abusing their power. The rules of chivlary were such a guide. Since those lower level nobles had to function in a different way (no longer farming and producing themselves), they clearly separated out from the common people. Since they were due fealty (obedience and respect) by the commoners, they were treated better. Then you had the rise of greater nobles and royalty, and the same thing happened again. Those of higher rank were given even greater respect and status. 2. However, what is certain is that the level of urbanization (that is the proportion of people living in urban areas) is associated in some places with numerous, positive outcomes such as technological innovation, forms of creativity, economic progress, higher standards of living, enhanced democratic accountability and women’s empowerment. In conclusion, the report calls for policy-makers and planners to understand that urbanization can be a positive force for economic development, leading to desirable social and political outcomes." "the relationship between urbanization and poverty is true for 90 per cent of the cases." "In analyzing global trends, the report argues that the degree of a country’s urbanization is now an indicator of wealth. The more urbanized a country, the higher the individual incomes. " was going to put it in my own words but they say it far better so here...It's a general statement about the effect of urbanization on the economy but i believe it can be used as an example for all economies because it's basically a formula. 3. Not exactly sure, but here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_England_in_the_Middle_Ages
