The progressive forms of a verb indicate that something is happening or was happening or will be happening.  That clearly eliminates one of those.

Also, when it comes to the past progressive, it does not indicate that something was finished.  If you look at  "I did my homework." and "I was doing my homework." you can see that "I did" is something that ended and is just past, as opposed to "I was doing" which does not indicate completion, and is thus a past progressive.
