What is the range of y = 2 sin 3x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since the range of y = sin x is [-1, 1].. Having that '2', will it affect? what is the new range?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let y= 3x then range of sin y will be [-1,1]... 3sin y = [-3,3]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@divu.mkr so the range is [-3, 3]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... that was a logic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. Haha sorry

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

y = 2 sin 3x 2 is called 'amplitude'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@divu.mkr so it's [-2, 2]?? from the '2'?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 ya, it is the amplitude...ahh! ok! got it, i think? the range (y) from the graph...oh well, thanks XD

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np :) that 2 :- stretches the graph UP to 2 units, and DOWN to 2 units.
