Which of the graphs below represents the equation 8x - y = -4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you have to put the equation into y=mx +b form 8x - y = -4 -y = -8x - 4 y= 8x + 4 Are you with me so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because the slope is positive, you can automatically cross out A and C because they have negative slopes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Both have the y intercept at 4, so you just need to look at which one has the slope of 8/1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

graph B?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

yes

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

the way to find the x and y intercepts.....we already found the y intercept by putting the equation in y = mx = b form, where b was the y intercept. To find the x intercept, sub in 0 for y. 8x - y = -4 8x - 0 = -4 8x = -4 x = -4/8 or -1/2 so the x intercept is -1/2. Looking at graph B, it shows y intercept at 4 and x intercept at -1/2. So, yes, it is graph B

Correct :)
