Then you want to write the digits that remain as a decimal number times \(10^n\), where \(n\) is the number of digits you counted. Here is an example to clarify: \(50,400\) has 4 digits before the most significant digit (the 5), and the remaining digits that become the decimals are \(04\), so in scientific notation we get: \(50400=5.04*10^4\)
