I think the question's asking of her mood or how she feels... and the words intelligent and studious are more so directed to attributes... I think that's what those two mean in English... I'm not sure though because I have no idea what the other answer choices mean...

It isn't asking how she feels! Don't be frustrated, though. It is okay. A lot of people get confused with this. It is asking how she usually is. It is asking, "How is Maria?". If it would be asing how she feels then it would say "Como ESTA Maria" which is How is Maria feeling, or how is she doing? Now, all of these explain what Maria might be, but three of them have a masculine ending, which does not match Maria's feminine name, so you have to find the one that is not masculine.

HINT: masculine endings USUALLY end with "o" and feminine endings usually end with "a".

BIG HINT: Either A or C is correct. ;]
